The University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications and nominations for the position of dean of The Burnett Honors College. This position reports to the provost and executive vice president.

Located in Orlando, UCF is one of the nation’s most dynamic metropolitan research universities. The Burnett Honors College provides approximately 2,000 students an opportunity to be a part of a learning community that fosters the pursuit of excellence, a sense of social and civic responsibility, and a passion for life-long learning. The Burnett Honors College attracts and challenges students who demonstrate an ability to achieve academic excellence. Honors students receive an education that prepares them to enter the best graduate and professional schools, as well as obtain distinguished careers in business and public service. The Burnett Honors College offers two distinct programs of study, University Honors and Honors in the Major. University Honors provides a special four-year course of study to the most promising undergraduate students at the university. Honors in the Major is a two-semester program where high achieving junior and senior students undertake original and independent research in their major field under the supervision of a faculty committee. This research culminates in a thesis or creative project. Because of the diversity of student interests, academic departments supervise Honors in the Major course work.

The University Honors Committee approves Honors seminars and selects recipients for Honors awards. This is a Faculty Senate Reporting Committee consisting of representatives from each academic unit, Honors students, and chaired by the dean of the college.

The dean of the Burnett Honors College will lead UCF honors students in cultivating intellectual inquiry, scholarly and cultural exploration, and creative expression. The dean is responsible for working with the faculty across all disciplines to foster excellence in research, education, and outreach programs while continuing to reinforce the role of the college within the university. The dean will foster strong working relationships with alumni and serve as the primary advocate of the college both internally and externally. As the leader of the college, the dean will be responsible for, but not limited to: fiscal management, strategic planning, and academic programs. Ultimately, the dean will work to provide a nurturing and transformative environment that is committed to excellence in Honors education.

The successful candidate should have:

- The ability to engage the entire campus community in maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence;
- An appreciation for Honors education and the distinctive qualities it brings to the university at large;
- A proven track-record of initiative and creativity in the development of new programs;
- Evidence of successful advocacy to garner support for a robust four-year Honors curriculum across all disciplines;
- Passion and values that embrace a holistic and student-centered approach to education;
- A commitment to preparing students to be successful global citizens;
- An appreciation for the mission of UCF and the university’s demonstrated commitment to diversity and access;
- A proven ability to work effectively to secure support in a resource limited environment;
- Experience working with donors and a comfortability with sharing the fundraising vision of the college (in partnership with the development director) to external constituents. Effective communication skills and the ability to engage all Honors constituents (students, faculty, administrators, and community partners).

Position Minimum Qualifications

- An earned terminal degree from an accredited institution, with the qualifications to hold tenure and the rank of professor in a department at UCF.

- At least three years of university administrative experience.
