Job Description

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Chemistry Department is seeking applicants for a 9-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer to support the department as Organic Chemistry Laboratory coordinator. The successful applicant will be expected to teach one large enrollment Organic Chemistry course in each of the fall and spring terms and to be the lab coordinator of all Organic Chemistry labs for fall and spring (summer optional) terms. As lab coordinator, the candidate oversees all aspects of the Organic Chemistry lab, including overseeing weekly lab instructor training, experiment selection and scheduling lab manual preparation, among other duties. The successful candidate will be expected to continue to innovate the labs to improve the learning and the instruction. In addition, as a full-time instructor or lecturer, they will have administrative and committee duties commensurate with a large chemistry service program at a major university and are expected to have a full-time presence on campus.

The Chemistry Department has productive academic programs including the Chemistry Ph.D., Chemistry M.S., Forensic Science M.S., and ACS-accredited B.S. programs in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Chemistry, and Forensic Biochemistry. The department boasts over 550 undergraduate majors and approximately 100 graduate students. The Organic Chemistry Laboratories enroll approximately 400 students every semester in up to 17 laboratory sections. The Chemistry Department values excellence in teaching and scholarly publication of pedagogical innovation.

Position Minimum Qualifications

For instructors: A master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field from an accredited institution by the start of employment, with teaching and course development experience.

For lecturers: A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field from an accredited institution by the start of employment, with teaching and course development experience.


A Ph.D. in Chemistry is preferred. Candidates who have experience in chemistry education research who are interested in continuing study in this area are encouraged to apply.
