Job Description

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the College of Health and Public Affairs invites applications for department chair. This is a 12-month, tenured position at the associate or full professor level to begin July 2018.

The Department: The CSD department offers both a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, enrolling more than 700 bachelor’s and 200 master’s students. The successful candidate will offer collaborative and dynamic leadership to a diverse faculty and staff in a growing university with high research activity (RU/H) and an expanding clinical program. The CSD clinic, with several specialty clinics and numerous external affiliations, serves as the centerpiece for clinical education and applied research providing services to individuals with communication and hearing challenges across the lifespan.

The CSD department enjoys strong partnerships with colleges across campus and community agencies (e.g., early childhood centers, public and private school districts, hospitals and healthcare providers and agencies) and will participate in the development of UCF’s Health Sciences campus.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarship and external research funding, providing visionary and entrepreneurial academic and administrative leadership. The incoming department chair would work with the department to continue its partnerships and leading role in integrated healthcare by expanding its close collaborations with the College of Education and Human Performance, Department of Psychology, the College of Medicine, the Department of Physical Therapy, the College of Nursing, and other academic units on campus, as well as its relationships with local hospitals, such as Orlando Health and the Florida Hospital system, and other local healthcare providers and agencies.

Candidates must demonstrate the following experience: higher education administration and leadership of faculty and staff, budgeting, strategic planning, fundraising, academic programming, curriculum development and assessment, facilitating programs of individual and collaborative interdisciplinary research, supporting and mentoring faculty in necessary steps to secure external funding, working with the chairs and directors of other departments/schools within the college to promote the college mission, and promoting a collegial and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as individuals affiliated with state and federal agencies, foundations, accrediting bodies, and other nongovernmental organizations. CCC-SLP or CCC-A certification is strongly desirable. Salary is contingent upon experience.

Position Minimum Qualifications

A doctoral degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline from an accredited institution and must be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor upon hire.

Preferences

Candidates who have a distinguished record of research, external funding, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, teaching, and university leadership commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of full professor.
