Job Description

The Department of Health Professions at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a 12-month, tenured position at the associate or full professor rank to serve as department chair, beginning late summer or fall of 2018.

The department seeks an innovative, energetic inter-professional leader who has the capacity to leverage the large size and existing strengths of the department to create a meaningful impact on the college, university, and community. The selected candidate will be a visionary with the ability to lead the department through exciting changes as UCF strengthens health and medical programming on the main campus and the Health Sciences campus at Lake Nona.

The Department of Health Professions is recognized regionally and nationally for the superior quality of its educational offerings and its contributions to health care, scholarship, and service to our community. With 22 full-time faculty, eight staff, adjunct faculty, and over 4,000 students, the department currently offers three academic majors (Doctor of Physical Therapy, Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences), a minor in Health Sciences, and a graduate certificate in Anatomical Sciences. The College of Health & Public Affairs is home to eight departments and nine centers and is a leader in creating positive community change by building partnerships that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries.

The successful candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership (i.e., management of human resources, budget, academic and clinical programming, and fundraising) and will facilitate intra- and inter-departmental collaborations to enhance the impact of scholarship, teaching, and service. Furthermore, the candidate will support and mentor faculty to secure external funding, promote a collegial and collaborative environment, and be able to facilitate meaningful growth to fill the healthcare needs of the community.

Position Minimum Qualifications

A doctoral degree in Healthcare or a related field from an accredited institution; an outstanding record of teaching, research, and scholarly achievements commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate or full professor; and demonstration of significant and successful administrative leadership and/or training experience in a university setting.


The ideal candidate should be a proven leader with the ability to oversee diverse professional clinical and traditional programs, have experience overseeing complex budgets and accreditation processes, have effective communication and interpersonal skills, have demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity, and possess the ability to support the future growth and expansion of the department.
The selected candidate should have the necessary academic experience to be a committed and effective mentor to the faculty and staff within the department’s multiple programs. The ideal candidate will have the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as create partnerships both within and outside the college and university.
