Job Description

The University of Central Florida, College of Medicine Faculty Practice at UCF Health in Orlando, FL is seeking primary care and subspecialist physicians for a tenure track or non-tenure track (multi-year) appointment at the assistant, associate or full professor of medicine ranks in the following disciplines: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Dermatology and Endocrinology. Applicants should be exceptional clinicians who wish to spend the majority of their time practicing. These positions involve delivering high quality, value-based, team-based outpatient care with opportunities for clinical research as well as medical student, resident and subspecialty fellow teaching. Applicants need to have demonstrated outstanding clinical practice as well as a high level of communication, collaboration and professionalism.

UCF has grown to be one of the nation’s largest universities and has demonstrated particular excellence in technology, science, and simulation. The College of Medicine (COM) was established in 2006, is fully LCME-accredited and has recently launched Internal Medicine Residency training. The medical campus is located at Lake Nona, serving as an anchor to the 500-acre “Medical City”, which is rapidly growing to include hospitals, clinics, and research institutes. The college also includes undergraduate and various graduate programs in biomedical sciences and biotechnology.

The success of the multispecialty faculty practice clinic, UCF Health, has led to further growth and expansion to a second state-of-the-art facility and hence multiple recruitments to practice primarily in an outpatient setting. There is the availability of on-site imaging, opportunities for participation in clinical trials and collaborative work on translational investigations with COM basic scientists. Currently there are no inpatient hospital responsibilities associated with these positions.

Position Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have an M.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited medical school. Candidates must be eligible for licensure or actively licensed to practice in the state of Florida. They must be boarded or board eligible in their specialty upon completion of training. Board certification would be expected within two (2) years of completion of training.

In order to be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor of medicine upon hire, the successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement, teaching experience and service commensurate with rank.

Preferences

General Internist:

It is preferred that the candidate have extensive experience in a busy high-volume outpatient clinic practice; have interest or expertise in population health and new models of health care delivery, such as value-based services and the patient centered medical home and telemedicine; have particular interest and experience in women’s health and related office-based primary care procedures; be experienced in rendering care using physician extenders; there is the preference that at least one of these hires have expertise in sports medicine and related outpatient procedures.

Dermatology:

It is preferred that the candidate have training, expertise and considerable experience in aspects of medical dermatology related to the cutaneous manifestations of systemic disorders, such as those involving rheumatology and gastroenterology. There is the expectation that the candidate will participate in such joint clinics as rheumatology-dermatology and gastroenterology-dermatology and have particular interest, expertise and experience in the care of patients with severe psoriasis.

The following specialties have been filled.

Allergy:

Training and hands-on experience in the preparation and administration of allergen-related reagents in the setting of busy allergy clinics is desired. It is also preferred that the candidate have expertise and particular interest in food allergies, especially as they relate to gastrointestinal effects. Preferably applicants should have done their training in a program with a majority of time focused on allergy and immunology and have an interest or experience in scholarly collaborations with pediatric allergists.

Family Medicine:

These positions deliver high quality, value-based outpatient care in partnership with Medical Risk Solutions at a practice located in Kissimmee, Florida, which provides comprehensive patient-focused care for employers in Osceola County. Practitioners interest in population health and workplace employer-based models of care are preferred. Occupational Health experience is preferred as well as experience developing treatment plans that revolve around wellness and preventive health care. Experience dispensing medications and a Florida medication dispensing license is preferred. The ideal candidate will be comfortable treating pediatric patients aged 8 and older.

Endocrinology:

It is preferred that the candidate have extensive clinical experience in caring for patients with diabetes mellitus and thyroid diseases, with specific training and considerable clinical experience in the use of ultrasound technology to image and biopsy the thyroid gland. An interest in the care of patients with the metabolic syndrome, “pre-diabetes” and related conditions is also preferred. Candidates who have additional faculty-level experience in endocrinology graduate medical education programs, peer-reviewed publications in the discipline of endocrinology, and have participated in research trials concerning endocrinologic disorders will be given special consideration.
