The newly formed Department of Nursing Systems at the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Nursing (CON) invites applications for a 12-month, tenured position at the associate or full professor rank to serve as department chair, beginning late summer or fall of 2018.

The department seeks an innovative, energetic nurse leader to administer this department, which contributes to the overall success of the CON and the university as a whole. The selected candidate will lead the department through exciting changes as UCF develops its vision for an academic health sciences center in collaboration with the College of Medicine and the health professions programs on the UCF Campus at Medical City in the rapidly developing Lake Nona area.

UCF is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as RU/VH (research university/very high research activity). It is one of the largest universities in the country with over 64,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Located in Orlando, UCF has thirteen (13) colleges and has been identified as one of the top five “Schools to Watch” by U.S. News and World Report. Congruent with the university goals, the mission of the CON is to prepare nurse leaders and patient advocates through excellence in education, research and service. Its vision is to become a 21st century leader in innovative nursing education, research and practice that impacts the health of the global community. Sixty full-time faculty and a highly qualified group of part-time faculty members teach across programs to promote student success.

The CON is home to two departments: Nursing Systems and Nursing Practice. The Department of Nursing Systems focuses on programs that educate individuals for greater leadership responsibilities within a healthcare or educational systems. The department houses several programs: RN to BSN, Concurrent Dual Enrollment BSN Program, Nurse Educator MSN and certificate option, Nursing Leadership and Management MSN, Nursing Executive DNP, and the nursing PhD program.

The department chair will provide leadership toward the achievement of the highest possible level of excellence in the teaching, research and activities of the department. The successful candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership (i.e., management of human resources, budget, academic and clinical programming, accreditation standards, and fundraising/advancement) and will facilitate intra- and inter-departmental collaborations to impact teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The department chair will support and mentor faculty to achieve to their highest potential and secure extramural funding, promote a collegial and collaborative environment that fosters innovation, and manage recruitment and retention of students to meet the healthcare workforce needs.

The responsibilities of this position include:
• Foster a climate of creativity and innovation, and a healthy work environment;
• Provide oversight for curriculum development and implementation of programs housed in the department;
• Provide oversight of the Ph.D., DNP, MSN, and RN-BSN programs, development, implementation and evaluation;
• Oversee academic offerings and faculty workloads to ensure quality and consistency across the programs;
• Oversee compliance with university policies and requirements of external agencies;
• Promote the department within and beyond the university;
• Assist in the decision-making of the program’s resources and the development and implementation of department budget;
• Facilitate community partnerships;
• Serve as a resource to committees of the College of Nursing;
• Participate in student and faculty recruitment and retention in accordance with UCF policy;
• Provide academic counseling and conflict resolution for undergraduate and graduate students.

Position Minimum Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in Nursing or related field from an accredited institution. Either the master’s or doctoral degree must be in nursing;
• Outstanding record of teaching;
• Successful leadership/administrative experience in a university setting;
• Eligible for appointment at the associate professor rank with tenure;
• Established program of research and scholarly productivity commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate or full professor;
• Eligible for RN licensure in the state of Florida.

Preferences

• Ph.D. in Nursing from an accredited institution;
• Proven leader with experience in budgeting and accreditation processes;
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
• Sustained record of research and extramural funding;
• Experience in inter-professional education.
