Job Description

The Facilities Operations Maintenance Department is seeking to hire a qualified Refrigeration Mechanic.

The following functions are performed in this position:

Provide technical support for the operations and maintenance of HVAC systems;

Conduct preventive maintenance on all HVAC mechanical systems and related equipment;

Perform preventive maintenance including but not limited to: scheduling maintenance to ensure continuous operation and prevent equipment interruptions; installing new or reconditioned mechanical or HVAC equipment; maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient environment in accordance with university standards;

Execute repairs by troubleshooting complex HVAC systems and completing scheduled assignments in a timely manner;

Ensure all refrigerant system repairs are in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency regulations;

Conduct repairs on various equipment including but not limited to: corrective and planned maintenance on pneumatic air systems; compressor electrical controls, appliances, cooling towers, boiler soft water systems, hot water tanks, steam converters, hot and chilled water pumps, and related piping; chilled water fan coil units, air handlers, variable air volume units, direction expansion (dx) units; window air condition units, ice machines, exhaust fans, ventilated systems and related equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position. If minimum requirements of the position do not require post high school education, an applicant is not required to provide the information on the application.

Additional Minimum Requirements
Preferences

Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.

Able to communicate in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, comprehend standard safety procedures and utilize telecommunication devices.

Mechanically trained in the operation of boilers, chillers, and pumps.

Possess a working knowledge of preventive maintenance on HVAC mechanical systems and related equipment.

A general knowledge in using the Apple iPad for the purpose of closing out work orders in the AiM CMMS system.

Basic computer operation and programming skills related to HVAC control systems.

Experience operating hand tools and power tools.

The ability to understand and interpret standard safety procedures and read blue prints.

Must have HVAC Technician Certification EPA Clean Air 608; Candidates for this position will be required to produce proof of certification upon hire.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Position is required to perform on-call assignments.

Position requires a Class E license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
