Job Description

The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager in providing nursing and patient care services within the medical office. This position may be moved at leadership’s direction within the College of Medicine to a commensurate level position as determined by the Vice President of Medical Affairs.

• Initial assessment of patients in the medical office to obtain vital signs and health histories

• Assists physicians with patient examinations and procedures

• Administers PO, SC, IM, medications and vaccinations

• Assists in collecting and/or performing laboratory and diagnostic testing

• Documents thoroughly in the EHR and may serve as a scribe in dictating the provider visit note.

• Reviews the medical record for completion of orders and preps charts as needed for patient visits

• Counsels patients under the direction of the provider in self-care, prevention, treatment, and follow-up

• Facilitates prescription refills as needed

• Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA guidelines and regulations

• Maintains adequate supplies in exam and treatment rooms

• Acts as an engaged member of the Patient Centered Medical Home Team. Participates in team meetings, care huddles, and quality improvement initiatives

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes*, or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code*.

Additional Minimum Requirements
Preferences

• Previous outpatient office experience with procedural experience
• Experience in Internal Medicine, GYN, or Allergy/Immunology
