Job Description

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) department is seeking to hire a qualified Building Code Official responsible for building code compliance of all University construction projects, including construction inspections, plans review, code interpretations, and record keeping for compliance with Florida State laws.

The following are specific tasks performed in this role:

Inspects construction for code compliance and quality control;

EH&S wide coordination of regulatory review and interpretation related to plans, blueprint review of renovation or new construction projects. Also, coordinating contractor activities relating to facility and facility safety issues, and acting as UCF liaison with various regulatory agencies related to building codes;

Plans review for code compliance including stand up reviews and advisory to design team and construction;

Keeps informed of code changes and State of Florida laws and rule changes, study code issues;

Assists Environmental Health & Safety Director with other duties, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma and six years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational or technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. If minimum requirements of the position do not require post high school education, an applicant is not required to provide the information on the application.

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

•Thorough knowledge of fire safety, occupational safety (as it relates to building and construction safety), standard building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical codes, blue print reading and interpretation, and construction terminology
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Demonstrate service orientation and diplomacy
•Able to multi-task
•Well-organized and detail-oriented with time management skills

This position requires State Certified and licensure as a standard Plans Examiner in all four trades (building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing).

You must be Certified and licensed as a Building Code Administrator.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct university business.
