Job Description

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) at the College of Health and Public Affairs, invites applications for Director of Clinical Education (DCE), a 12-month, tenure-earning or tenured position at the assistant, associate or full professor rank or non-tenure earning clinical assistant, associate or full professor rank, anticipated to begin summer 2018.

The successful candidate will possess the leadership, managerial, organizational, and communication skills necessary to direct all functions of the clinical education curricula with the University of Central Florida (UCF) DPT program. The successful applicant will contribute to excellence in physical therapy education by cultivating and maintaining strong clinical education relationships and dedication to distinction in teaching, research and service in order to advance the program, college, and university mission. Additional expectations include teaching activities in related areas of clinical education and applicant expertise, university and professional service, and scholarly activity in alignment with applicant expertise.

The DPT program at UCF offers an entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The program is within the Department of Health Professions, located in the College of Health and Public Affairs. The program is currently involved in the active development of an Academic Health Sciences Center in collaboration with the UCF College of Medicine and its developing a teaching hospital that will enhance the teaching, research and clinical practice infrastructure of UCF.

Position Minimum Qualifications

An entry level physical therapy degree from a CAPTE-accredited institution and a doctoral degree from a regionally-accredited institution, a minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice as a licensed physical therapist, and a distinct area of contemporary expertise in accordance with professional accreditation guidelines. ABD will be considered, but the doctoral degree must be earned by the start of the appointment.

For consideration of a tenure-earning assistant professor position, applicants must have a distinct area of research focus with appropriate training to project high potential for scholarly productivity and the ability to secure extramural funding. Applicants eligible for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor upon hire will have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement and teaching experience commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.


Applicants who possess an academic doctoral degree, experience as a director of Clinical Education or other contributing responsibilities associated with administration of physical therapy clinical education, an established area of research and scholarly activity, board certification as a clinical specialist, and certification as a basic and an advanced clinical instructor by the APTA.
