Job Description

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (MAE) in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), has an exciting career opportunity for a postdoctoral candidate. Working primarily under the supervision of Professor Seetha Raghavan, the selected candidate will be tasked with developing and testing advanced diagnostic testing capabilities in extreme environments of relevance to engine applications (synchrotron x-ray diffraction, imaging). The focus of the research effort involves novel materials, mechanics and measurement advances that enable accurate and high-resolution measurements of temperature and strains during operational extreme environments. Benchmarking new techniques with industry standards diagnostics will also be a part of the effort. This position includes the opportunity to collaborate heavily with industry and a national laboratory. Position Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in mechanical/aerospace engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry or a related field by the time of appointment.


•Prefer candidates with a strong understanding of the mechanics of materials, advanced diagnostics in this area, as well as experience in developing and using computational or experimental techniques.

•Strong presentation skills, capability to provide support with managing a team of students, and excellent communication with external collaborators including industry partners and scientists are desired strengths.
