Job Description

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Department of Management in the College of Business Administration seeks applicants for a new tenure/tenure-track position (to start Fall 2018). Specifically, we are seeking candidates who can connect their research and/or teaching interests in some way to cyber, broadly defined. Indeed, while security technologies are rapidly improving, consensus in the cybersecurity industry is that the human element is often as big or a bigger weakness in information security, which suggests that management researchers should have much to say about understanding and preventing insider breaches. Thus, we are looking for a productive individual who has research and/or teaching interests in the interdisciplinary space between management, ethics, information technology/systems, and cybersecurity. Although candidates from either macro or micro perspectives are welcome, all are expected to hold a doctorate in management or closely related discipline from an AACSB-accredited institution. Our primary focus is at the advanced assistant/associate professor rank, but we will consider candidates at all ranks if research and teaching interests closely align with the position’s other qualifications. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience teaching in and/or designing new graduate programs. Successful candidates are also expected to conduct and publish high-quality research that further enhances the Management Department’s strong reputation for research productivity. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

Macro perspective:
• The management of technological innovation that effectively balances the often-competing needs of direct business value and increased protection from cyber security threats;
• The evaluation of entrepreneurial ventures in the complex intersection of IT and cyber security;
• The establishment of frameworks to effectively manage technological risk of sensitive inter-organizational systems and the protection of data/intellectual property;
• The design of organizational structures that encourage employees’ simultaneous innovation and compliance;
• The study of innovation diffusion and subsequent impacts on adopters’ rights to privacy;

Micro perspective:
• The integration of fields such as positive psychology and criminology in the advancement of techniques to help mitigate insider-led breaches;
• The development and maintenance of employees’ positive, cyber security-related intentions and behaviors in high-stress organizational environments;
• The ethics of sensitive information utilization and protection in the modern workplace, especially the ethics associated with the acquisition, storage, analysis, and dissemination of information emerging from big data initiatives.

Position Minimum Qualifications

Candidates for this position are expected to hold a doctorate in Management, Organizational Behavior, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline from an AACSB-accredited institution. ABD’s will be considered; however, Ph.D. must be completed by the start of the appointment period.

Candidates must have experience with and/or interest in the interdisciplinary space between management and cyber.

In order to obtain tenure, the selected candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching, research and service commensurate with rank.
