Job Description

The associate vice president leads the creation and implementation of the advancement marketing and communications program with responsibility for ensuring advancement brand identity is consistent with the UCF brand and there is a strategic and results driven approach to communication with alumni, donors and external stakeholders.

Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive communications and marketing plan that supports the organization’s strategic goals and reaches a diverse constituent base across all media including but not limited to publications, video, web, digital, and social media. Collaborate with the vice president for advancement and CEO of the UCF Foundation, Inc., and the senior associate vice presidents (3) for administration, alumni and development.

Serve as advancement’s chief communications officer with key partners including the office of the President, UCF’s central marketing team, the UCF Foundation Board of Directors, the UCF Alumni Board, and the UCF Board of Trustees and colleagues across advancement. Serve as marketing and communications adviser to the vice president for advancement and CEO of the UCF Foundation, Inc., UCF’s president, UCF’s central communications and marketing team, and other institutional leaders regarding communication strategies and responses to breaking news, reputational impacts, major decisions and events that intersect with UCF advancement and Foundation priorities.

Serve as the primary point of contact for media issues related to philanthropy and alumni relations.

Develop and continually manage a system to measure the effectiveness of marketing and communication-related initiatives.

Build and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships internally and externally with academic deans and department leaders, faculty, UCF athletics, administrative leaders, media, and the Florida business and national non-profit sector in ways that help coordinate advancement marketing and communication efforts across all areas of UCF and in external relationships important to constituent engagement and philanthropy.

Oversee the visual identity and branding of advancement and the Foundation in keeping with the UCF brand. Develop, disseminate, and evaluate key messages for print and digital materials, briefing materials for advancement staff and volunteer leaders (internal and external) ensuring that messages and materials are linked to a common and agreed upon set of core goals.

Lead and mentor staff, providing strategic leadership and vision in directing the activities of the communications teams for advancement, ensuring a culture and practice of shared resources in creative services, digital strategy, publications development and dissemination. Direct various personnel actions including hiring, performance review and other personnel concerns.

Review and make recommendations to advancement leadership on partnerships and sponsorships in support of organization goals and review all contracts with external vendors in design, printing and creative.

Develop and lead creative campaigns and manage selected university-wide and college/unit-specific projects as needed and appropriate.

Oversee the department’s budget and ensure that resources are linked to priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and seven years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and nine years of appropriate experience.

Additional Minimum Requirements

Experience in effectively leading a marketing and communications program and staff, preferably in higher education advancement.

Ability to develop and implement a creative and strategic approach to marketing and communications programs that resonate with diverse constituencies, advance organization goals and are results oriented.

Demonstrated ability to think, plan and execute proactively and strategically.

Knowledge of and demonstrated success utilizing multiple media to achieve results.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts to diverse audiences with poise and professionalism.

Confident in making public presentations before high-level audiences.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work and complete quality projects on time and within budget.
