Job Description

The School of Public Administration at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks applicants for a tenure-earning assistant professor or a tenured associate professor position, with a focus on resilience, to begin August 2018. We seek candidates who have a strong research and teaching record, have the ability to attract extramural-funded research, and have an emerging national and/or international recognition.

The faculty member’s academic home will be the School of Public Administration ( — one of the leading and innovative schools of public policy and administration in the country, and the editorial home of Public Administration Review (leading journal in the field), Health and Human Services Administration, and Administration Theory and Praxis. The selected candidate will be expected to collaborate with researchers from multiple disciplines across the university, including social scientists, engineers, communication experts, and policy scientists. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with interdisciplinary researchers at UCF to create a preeminent focus on resilience in metropolitan areas and to build an interdisciplinary resilience team for pursuing extramural funding to support high-quality research.

The selected candidate will be expected to teach courses in academic programs in the School of Public Administration. The School of Public Administration offers a Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning, a NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration, Master of Nonprofit Management, and Master of Research Administration. The school also offers undergraduate minors and graduate certificate programs in Urban and Regional Planning, a B.A./B.S. in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, and Emergency Management and Homeland Security. This combination of disciplines offers unparalleled opportunities for interdisciplinary research and community based projects.

Position Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, political science, economics, management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.

Expertise in disaster policy, planning, implementation is expected with an active research agenda in a disaster resilience related fields, an excellent record of publications, and successful teaching experience commensurate with rank.

Candidates eligible for appointment as a tenured associate professor upon hire must have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, research and teaching experience commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor.


Candidates with expertise in disaster or emergency management, resilience and high reliability organizations/systems, critical infrastructure and infrastructure resiliency, and policy design and implementation. Preference will also be given to candidates with interdisciplinary work experience with other disciplines such as sociology, community psychology, and engineering.
