Job Description

The Integrated Business (IB) Department at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks to fill an instructor or lecturer position. The teaching assignment will focus on the program’s required Data Driven Decision Making course which shows students how to use public and private data to make informed business decisions through a critical thinking process that includes issue identification, feasible solution generation, optimal decision selection, performance tracking, and persuasive writing. Students are asked to analyze data to understand how it should influence action steps a business may take, how to use data to define successful outcomes, and how to measure progress. The Data Driven Decision Making course forces students outside of their comfort zones to recognize and evaluate data imperfections while using the best available information sources to shape decisions. The teaching assignment may include other courses in the IB program.

This is a nine-month, non-tenure earning position to start August 8, 2018 (fall semester). The normal teaching load is four classes each fall semester and four classes each spring semester. While the primary assignment is at the UCF main campus, the selected candidate will be required to teach at two or more campuses each semester. Campus assignments could include the main (Orlando), Valencia West, Valencia East, Osceola, and/or Sanford/Lake Mary campuses.

The IB program employs a lead faculty member structure in which the content and structure of each course is developed and maintained by the lead. Instructors and lecturers are expected to focus on high quality course delivery and substantive student engagement. Instructors and lecturers also provide input on development of common assignment and assessments and changes in course content and structure. The IB program has adopted a flipped classroom approach in which face-to-face class time is used to actively engage students with course material and develop in them a range of soft skills.
