Class Title Instructor or Lecturer, Managerial Economics
Administrative Title No Administrative Function
Job Description

The Integrated Business (IB) Department at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks to fill an instructor or lecturer position. The selected individual may initially serve as lead faculty member for the program’s required Managerial Economics course. This course teaches students to apply economic theory, principles, and techniques to business decision making while improving critical thinking skills and providing analytical tools needed to address key business issues.

The duties of the lead faculty member include developing and maintaining course content, coordinating common exams and projects with other course instructors, representing the course and its instructors in meetings with other lead faculty members and the director of the program, serving on the curriculum, assessment, and annual evaluation committees for the program, and providing feedback to the director as input for evaluation of instructors of the course.

This is a nine-month, non-tenure earning position to start August 8, 2018 (fall semester). The normal teaching load is four classes each fall semester and four classes each spring semester, but the teaching load would be reduced for serving as lead faculty member. While the primary assignment is at the UCF main campus, the selected candidate will be required to teach at two or more campuses each semester. Campus assignments could include the main (Orlando), Valencia West, Valencia East, Osceola, and/or Sanford/Lake Mary campuses.

The IB program employs a lead faculty member structure in which the content and structure of each course is developed and maintained by the lead. Instructors and lecturers are expected to focus on high quality course delivery and substantive student engagement. Instructors and lecturers also provide input on development of common assignment and assessments and changes in course content and structure. The IB program has adopted a flipped classroom approach in which face-to-face class time is used to actively engage students with course material and develop in them a range of soft skills.
