Job Description

The Landscape & Natural Resources Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill two (2) vacant Senior Groundskeeper positions.

The specific duties performed in this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Treat unwanted pest such as weeds, bugs, fungi. Report pest problems per Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan;

Inspects, evaluates, and determines appropriate pest control treatments, fertilization and application rates and applies chemical treatments to campus grounds;

Trains employee in the correct usage and application of restricted and non-restricted use of chemical and fertilizers;

Maintains inventory records of all grounds chemicals and fertilizers. Documents pesticide usage, fertilization and control problems.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of the ninth grade and two years of appropriate experience. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position. If minimum requirements of the position do not require post high school education, an applicant is not required to provide the information on the application.

Additional Minimum Requirements

At least 3 years’ experience in groundskeeping techniques, including chemical/fertilizer applications and plant care;

Able to work in various outdoor environments, prioritize work assignments, and work in a team with diverse backgrounds and knowledge;

Able to demonstrate basic plant identification, and general Integrated Pest Management knowledge;

Able to use personal protective safety equipment as required;

Able to understand and interpret standard safety procedures;

Able to communicate in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members;

Able to maintain lawns and grounds; Complete work assignments and coordinate with zone teams;

Able to abide by required safety policies and department standard operating procedures.

Possess and maintain Pest Control License (F.S. 482). Candidates for this position will be required to produce proof of license upon hire.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct university business.

Candidate must hold, or be able to obtain within 6 months, a Best Management Practices (BMP) certification or equivalent.
