Job Description

Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and practice plan physicians, as well as other healthcare providers, to coordinate and provide clinical care for patients being seen at the time of in office visits, as well as post visit care coordination. This position may be moved at leadership’s discretion within the College of Medicine to a commensurate level position as determined by the Vice President of Medical Affairs.

• Interviews clients to obtain health history, checks vital signs: temperature, blood pressure, pulse and records in Electronic Health Record; ensures accuracy and completeness of medical record

• Assists providers with exams and procedures; prepares treatment room, ensuring that all instruments and supplies are present; sterilizes and cleans instruments

• Answers patient inquiries providing routine information and routing calls to physician when necessary

• Processes patient prescriptions/refills

• Performs patient testing, phlebotomy, and administers medications and vaccines

• Obtains lab and testing results and assists with follow-up under the direction of the provider

• Maintains adequate supplies in exam/treatment rooms

• Participates in educational activities and in-services

• Attends staff meetings. Acts as an engaged member of the Patient Centered Medical Home Team. Participates in team meetings, care huddles, and quality improvement initiatives

• Adheres to HIPAA guidelines/regulations

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Certification as a medical assistant and an Associate’s degree.

• Phlebotomy techniques and EKG
• Ability to plan, prioritize and complete tasks timely
• Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring
• Computer literate
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written communications
• Ability to work alone or in a team-oriented environment
• Must be energetic and adaptable, with a willingness to learn new skills and possess ability to successfully manage simultaneous multiple tasks
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with physicians, staff and patients
• Ability to communicate with diverse populations
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service
