Job Description

The Facilities Operations Department is seeking a qualified Licensed Electrician to perform the following functions:

Perform planned scheduled work or as assigned by the supervisor defined as rough in and finished electrical construction work. Planned work can be identified as part of the skilled electrical trade;

Install, maintain, and alter wiring, power appliances, light machinery and electrical circuits;

Conduct corrective repairs in reaction to a user reporting issues to restore functionality;

Install and maintain electrical motors, generators and other electrical components;

Locate and correct power failures and electrical malfunctions;

Maintain and conduct minor repairs to fire alarm systems;

Make emergency electrical repairs;

Perform Support work by assisting with work done by central shops, contractors, other zones and departments, or events on campus;

Perform Routine work defined as recurring work that has no specific frequency and remains open for an explicit amount of time;

Perform Project work defined as work performed in conjunction with Facilities Improvement programs, Capital Improvement programs or work that result in an upgrade to the facilities;

Complete work orders in timely manner;

Record labor hours, action code, shop stock, and trade notes in university Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);

Indicate in the trade notes work performed, any special conditions or situation that requires further attention;

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as an electrician in the State of Florida. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position. For applicants who hold a license in another state (Georgia, North Carolina, or California) which has reciprocity with the State of Florida, they will need to apply to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation to get their license approved as a Florida equivalent license. For those applicants who hold a license in a state in which Florida does not have reciprocity, they will have six months to take the examination. Employment with the university will be contingent upon these requirements. If minimum requirements of the position do not require post high school education, an applicant is not required to provide the information on the application.

Additional Minimum Requirements

Able to understand and follow written/oral instructions.

Able to communicate in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment, comprehend standard safety procedures and utilize telecommunication devices.

Able to operate essential tools and equipment.

Adaptable in assignments.

Demonstrate capabilities in interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, calculation, reading, evaluating, comprehension, and organizing.

Demonstrate proficiency using standard office software applications for work order systems (CMMS).

Possess a Journeyman’s electrical license or Electrical contractor’s license.

Able to use personal protective safety equipment as indicated in training and operational manuals; as well as directed by supervision.

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

This position does not require college credits. If the selected applicant claims college credit on the application for this position, an official transcript from the accredited institution must be provided within 30 days of the hire date. This applies whether the applicant is a new hire or promoted from among current UCF employees.
