Job Description

The Facilities Operations Department is seeking a qualified Licensed Plumber to perform the following functions:

Perform planned scheduled construction work or as assigned by the supervisor defined as minor project renovation. Planned work can be identified as part of the following skilled trades: heating and plumbing;

Install, maintain, test, and calibrate plumbing components connected with water, gas, air and sewer systems for bathrooms, laboratories, pumps, faucets, valves traps, pipes, water heaters, kitchens, equipment related to minor and major plumbing configurations, and emergency showers;

Perform support work by assisting with work done by central shops, contractors, other zones and departments, or events on campus;

Perform routine work defined as recurring work that has no specific frequency and remains open for an explicit amount of time;

Perform project work defined as work performed in conjunction with Facilities Improvement programs, Capital Improvement programs or work that result in an upgrade to the facilities.

Complete work orders in timely manner;

Record labor hours, action code, shop stock, and trade notes. Indicate in the trade notes work performed, any special conditions or situation that requires further attention.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a plumber in the State of Florida. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position. If minimum requirements of the position do not require post high school education, an applicant is not required to provide the information on the application.

Preferences

Preference will be granted to candidates who possess a Master Plumber’s License and/or plumbing contractor’s license.

Working knowledge of trades classifications and functions including tools, materials, and task specific sequencing required for maintenance, sanitation, and repairs.

Demonstrate ability to comprehend and support all applicable Federal, State, and local safety rules and regulations, including OSHA, Dept. of Health, and the Bureau of Fire Safety.

Able to understand, communicate, apply, and enforce UCF guidelines, regulations, and policies

Should have strong communication skills in English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate and interpret the functions of the electronic equipment (iPod Touch for AiM PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures and utilize telecommunication devices.

Able to understand and apply all standard guidelines and work processes to work planning and scheduling

Able to comprehend reports, inspections, and documentation pertinent to the unit.

Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality and address sensitive matters appropriately and efficiently.

Able to assess material needs, order, and sustain accurate and sufficient inventories.

Demonstrate ability to ensure that work productivity and service meet UCF quality assurance standards.

Able to interpret, follow and/or provide instructions.

Be flexible for utilization by trade with most urgent requirements.

Ability to read blueprints.

Familiar with operation and powered drain-cleaning machine.

Become aware of water and gas shut-off points campus-wide.

Able to participate in the Respiratory Program which may be subject to medical examinations and training in use of respirators.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
