Job Description

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications for an assistant professor in French with a concentration in linguistics, applied linguistics, second-language acquisition, or a related field. This is a nine-month, tenure-earning position anticipated to begin August 2018.

The successful candidate will teach lower and upper level classes in French. Assignments will consist of 3/2 teaching load, with a commitment to research and publication required.

Position Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in French or equivalent with a concentration in linguistics, applied linguistics, second-language acquisition, or a related field from an accredited institution is required by the time of hire. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level. Native or near native fluency in French and English.


Preference will be given to candidates who have a secondary interest in francophone or Creole studies and/or bilingualism. Demonstrated excellence in teaching language at the undergraduate level, including upper division, as well as experience in teaching language at all proficiency levels. Demonstrated excellence in interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and scholarship. Experience in teaching using different modalities of function (i.e., online and face-to-face courses).
