Job Description

This position reports to the Director for Faculty Development and will provide leadership in collaboration with the Director to coordinate, develop and oversee aspects of the program aimed at fostering faculty excellence and student success.

  • Consult with COM faculty interested in updating or refining curricular or instructional practices to ensure modifications are aligned with current trends and developments in adult learning, educational theory, student motivation and innovations in medical education.
  • Manage, develop, deliver and evaluate the Resident as Teacher program (face-to-face, on-line and blended) at partnering institutions (Florida Hospital, Orlando Health, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Nemours Children’s Hospital, Osceola Regional Medical Center, Flagler Hospital, Naples Community Hospital and Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Medical Center).
  • Develop on-line clinical educator modules to support the Resident as Teacher program and clinical educators at partnering institutions.
  • In collaboration with the Director, identify, study, present/disseminate and identify funding for innovative faculty development initiatives and medical education-based research at local, state, regional and national professional associations, conferences, and committees.
  • Assist in the development of new programs designed to strengthen the use of innovative pedagogical methods, instructional technology, and effective assessment strategies in the curriculum.
  • Provide support for the College of Medicine LCME accreditation process.
  • Provide principal oversight in the:
    - Development of new programs designed to strengthen the use of innovative pedagogical methods, instructional technology, effective assessment strategies and scholarship in the pre-clinical and clinical curriculum.
    - Development, delivery and adaptation of faculty development sessions around teaching topics to multiple audiences (i.e. classroom teachers, clinical educators, volunteer faculty, inpatient and outpatient faculty).
    - Development and implementation of web-based resources tailored to the specific needs of the faculty involved in the education program.
    - Development of a national, web-based curriculum for clinical educators.
    - Procurement of joint-sponsored CME credit for major faculty development programs (both on-line and live).
  • Conduct ongoing and annual program evaluation for managed program and recommend improvements.
  • Oversee faculty peer evaluation program.
  • Conduct faculty orientations to curricular programs (Community of Practice 1 & 2, FIRE, etc.).
  • Review, selection and implementation of a web-based faculty dossier system.
  • Identify and solicit external speakers for faculty development sponsored events.
  • Collaborate with the Harriet F. Ginsberg library and Educational Technology to identify, develop and promote programs focused on emerging faculty needs.
  • Develop and participate in programs designed to promote faculty scholarship of teaching, learning and engagement.
  • Participate and/or represent Faculty Development in university, college, departmental or curricular meetings.
  • Assist in the development of a nationally-recognized continuing medical education (CME) program.
  • Support additional faculty development programs such as the teaching academy, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience.

Additional Minimum Requirements
Preferences
  • Master’s degree in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, educational leadership or related field.
  • Minimum of one year faculty development experience.
  • Experience in a medical school setting preferred.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  • -Developing workshops focused on teaching and learning
    -Learning theories and teaching methods
    -Competency-based curricular design
    -Technology enhanced teaching and learning (Articulate Storyline software)
    -Online course management (Canvas)
