Job Description

The Facilities Operations: Maintenance department is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a vacant Licensed Plumber position.

The functions performed in this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform planned scheduled work or as assigned by the supervisor defined as preventive maintenance (PM)/predictive maintenance (PDM) geared toward proactively identifying potential failures or preventing failures;

Assist and execute on-going preventive maintenance programs through repair, replacement, and installation, throughout the University; Preventative maintenance includes but is not limited to: heating, plumbing fixtures and equipment;

Planned work can be identified as part of the following skilled trades: heating, and plumbing. Installs, maintains, test, and calibrates plumbing components connected with water, gas, air and sewer systems; Insure all components adhere to all national and state codes;

Maintain equipment related to minor and major plumbing configurations. Operate pumps, faucets, valves traps, pipes, water heaters, and emergency showers; Operate sewer and pipeline inspection camera equipment to monitor and troubleshoot sewage systems;

Locate and correct plumbing failures and malfunctions; Maintains, installs and repairs backflow preventer and makes emergency plumbing repairs;

Assist Central Shops, Contractors, and other departments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a plumber in the State of Florida. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position. If minimum requirements of the position do not require post high school education, an applicant is not required to provide the information on the application.

Additional Minimum Requirements

Strong communication skills in English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate and interpret the functions of the electronic equipment, comprehend standard safety procedures and utilize telecommunication devices.

Candidates with experience using various computer programs including and/or equivalent to Microsoft Office suites and AIM Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred.

Candidates who possess a working knowledge of preventative maintenance in areas such as complex plumbing and plumbing components preferred.

Ability to make emergency plumbing repairs; Ability to perform preventive maintenance and corrective work on Steam and Hot Water Boilers.

Ability to monitor zone staff assigned for the completion of plumbing projects to assure all work is done properly and up to code standards.

Ability to train zone staff to improve plumbing skills as required.

Ability to understand and interpret standard safety procedures and read blue prints.

Candidates for this position will be required to produce proof of State of Florida Plumber License upon hire.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

May be required to participate in the Respiratory Program which may be subject to medical examinations and training in use of respirators.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
