Job Description

The Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Health and Public Affairs invites applicants for a faculty appointment at the lecturer rank to begin in Fall 2018.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to contribute to the department’s core areas of law enforcement, corrections, and/or juvenile justice, as well as contribute to methods/statistics. In particular, the department is looking to hire a social scientist with a broad teaching portfolio and experience teaching online and face-to-face classes. The position responsibilities include: 1) graduate and undergraduate instruction; 2) contribution to departmental initiatives; 3) service to the discipline, community and/or university; and 4) evidence of helping build a program through advising, mentoring and community engagement. The teaching load is 4 courses per semester.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is one of the largest universities in the country and is located in Orlando, Florida near Atlantic and Gulf coast beaches and world-famous tourist attractions. The Department of Criminal Justice employs 33 full-time faculty, with an impressive student body made up of approximately 1,300 undergraduate majors and 290 master’s degree students. The faculty comprises productive scholars who are active in ACJS, ASC, and regional societies. The department was recently awarded a doctoral program in Criminal Justice, with the first class of students beginning in the fall of 2015. Position Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a closely-related discipline from an accredited institution by the start of the appointment.

A Juris Doctorate or terminal master’s degree will not be considered for this position.


A demonstrated ability to teach effectively in web-based courses, in addition to the required face-to-face classes. Candidates with a demonstrated ability to teach criminal courts, criminal law, criminal procedure, and/or prosecution and adjudication.
