Job Description

Responsible to Director, Associate Director, Assistant Director, or equivalent higher level administration.

This position/classification is considered a critical/essential position under the university’s designation of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) as an essential responder/s to an emergency (unplanned event) or threat thereof which disrupt operations within the university.

Provide individual therapy, group therapy, assessment and referral services, crisis intervention, and psychological consultations, evaluation and support services to currently enrolled UCF students and in extenuating circumstances, non-enrolled/or non-students along with other University community members.

Provide outreach programming and workshops on a variety of developmental, preventative, and/or psychological topics.

Provide consultative services to university administrators, faculty, staff, campus organizations and partners.

Provide training and clinical supervision for center graduate trainees, pre-doctoral inters and/or non-licensed staff in accordance with ethical guidelines, state laws, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) policies and procedures.

Engage in continuing education and professional development activities.

May serve as coordinator of a specific CAPS programming area (consistent with interest and level of training) or as designated liaison with specific units on campus as determined by the Director, Associate Director, or Assistant Director.

Serve on CAPS, SDES, and university committees and be active in regional, state, and national professional organizations.

May initiate and authorize involuntary examination (Baker Act) procedures in accordance with statute 394.463, Florida mental Health Act.

May conduct psychological assessment, administer and interpret a variety of psychological assessment inventories, and prepare reports.

May conduct research and program evaluations to inform clinical practice and CAPS outcome effectiveness.

May be the senor professional in charge in the absence of the Director, Associate Director/s, or Assistant Director/s or equivalent higher-level administrator.

May perform other clinical or administrative duties under the direction of the Director, Associate Director/s, or Assistant Director/s.

Minimum Qualifications

A doctorate in psychology from an accredited college or university, which includes one year of supervised internship experience in professional psychology; or licensure as a psychologist by the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 490, F.S.*

Additional Minimum Requirements

Experience in University Counseling Center work is preferred, including initial assessments and brief therapy, crisis intervention, group therapy, supervision and training, outreach and community interventions as well as experience working with collaborative partner’s on-campus. Experience and competency working with Eating Disorders (ED) or Substance Abuse (SA) and working collaboratively as a member of the ED or SA treatment team. Additionally, it is preferred that the candidate be licensed or near licensure.

Experience in one or more of the following is also desired:

1. Interest and expertise in working with ethnic minorities (including African-American, Latino, Asian-American and Native American students) and sexual orientation and gender identity expression.
2. A 3-year post licensure psychologist that is interested and skilled with supervision.
3. Interest and expertise in working with substance abuse (SA) and co-occurring disorders and working collaboratively as a member as the SA treatment team.
4. Interest and expertise in working with trauma. This specialization would include being a liaison to Victim Services as well as running the Women’s Trauma group and providing an annual training seminar to the training cohort.
5. Expertise as a strong generalist with a heavy clinical focus, with expertise in working with depression and anxiety.
6. Interest and expertise in crisis management and response or other related specialization or treatment certifications.
