Job Description

The incumbent provides professional and administrative support and reports to the Assistant Dean for Medical Education and the Director of Faculty & Academic Affairs as well as collaborates with each of the Medical Module Directors for the planning and implementation of the respective modules (curriculum). Internal Title: M1 Coordinator

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of Year 1 basic science curriculum modules and Longitudinal Curricular Themes (LCTs) by working closely with curriculum directors and core faculty members:
    • HB1 Human body: Cellular Function and Medical Genetics
    • HB2 Human body: Structure and Function
    • HB3 Human body: Health and Disease
    • C1: Psychosocial Issues in Health Care
    • LCTs
  • Coordinates materials including module schedule, syllabi, handouts, lecture outlines, tutorial guides, and other materials for small group discussions, lectures, demonstrations and laboratories.
  • Oversees the current schedule of module activities (curriculum meetings, didactic sessions, labs and calendar assignments); monitors these activities to prevent or resolve scheduling conflicts and other problems ensuring that students receive the appropriate educational experiences, as directed by the Assistant Dean
  • Manages the learning management system (Canvas), including posting of learning materials, maintenance of calendar, placing announcements and student grade books.
  • Assist with monitoring and troubleshooting the Canvas technical discussion board and ensure that didactics and labs start without technical issues
  • Manages and troubleshoots computerized examination question database utilizing COM test banking software including question entry, item analysis, and reporting of results to faculty and students as directed.
  • Schedules and makes arrangements for curriculum committee and curriculum subcommittee meetings; keeps records of course meetings (SharePoint)
  • Chief proctor and trainer for the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) student examinations and all other examinations administered to the 1st year medical students. Serves as point of contact for faculty members and students for NBME
  • Advisor to students when they may have concerns or problems related to the year one educational program. Available to answer any student-related questions or concerns. Serves as a liaison between student, faculty and staff members. Assists with scheduling concerns, committee communication and overall dissemination of information for first year students
  • Liaison and collaborator for the Practice of Medicine and FIRE, longitudinal modules for 1st year medical students, as needed
  • Manage the inventory of textbooks and all other materials for course development
  • Collaborates with offices of Student Affairs, Faculty, Development, Educational Technology, Information Technology, Assessment, and Library in regards to curriculum development, scheduling, orientation, and student services.
  • Coordinates event planning for special module events, including cadaver reception and hospice dinner.
  • Manages the scheduling system (R25) for the first year curriculum and examinations
  • Assist faculty with e-learning authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Adobe Presenter) for self-learning modules, case-based learning (kuraCloud), clicker questions (TurningPoint Technologies), and lecture recording system (Panopto)
  • Develop and deliver usability training and documentation for faculty, staff, and students
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Schedule, attend and document meetings with LCT Director and each LCT department
  • Maintain LCT page and department page on COM website
  • Attend and support IPE events held
  • Serve as point of contact for LCT events in conjunction with LCT Director
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

Additional Minimum Requirements

Exceptional organization and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail. Strong computer skills in data management, word processing, and spreadsheet. Experience in higher education. Computer skills including Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, and course development applications. Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
