Job Description

Develop, establish, implement and enforce processes and procedures including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with University policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with EH&S regulations, policies, chemical and biological safety guidelines and equipment usage protocols.

Schedule and ensure all laboratory personnel including students and post-docs have undergone required safety training. Train researchers and students on the proper operation of facility equipment in collaboration with manufacturers and services technicians.

Perform routine inspections of the HVAC and other building equipment to troubleshoot and schedule appropriate repair, maintenance and/or replacement.

Oversee the service and maintenance technicians during routine and emergency equipment maintenance.

Research and evaluate new products, compare and negotiate vendor prices, maintain and renew equipment service and maintenance agreements to ensure equipment is maintained and operated properly.

Review information gathered on research and building equipment and make recommendations on repair and replacements of faulty parts.

Advise Center administration on university/state safety policies, report on research activities, prioritize space and equipment needs and coordinate with vendors to complete constructions and/or modifications of laboratory space.

Assist faculty with major equipment purchases/relocation, installation and operation/training.

Assist in lab facility operations including cleaning and disinfecting, receiving shipments of chemical and biological materials and ensuring proper storage of such materials, and receiving, installing and maintenance of biological safety cabinets.

Monitor daily operation of facility laboratory equipment (RO water system, HVAC and Strobic fans) and emergency generator.

Coordination of receipt and storage of gas tanks and serve as liaison with EH&S for the proper storage of flammable and hazardous materials in the Bio/Chemistry labs.

Act as liaison with University departments related to the safety and security of NSTC facilities and property. Maintain inventory and tracking of all NSTC property for University reporting and insurance purposes.

First responder to all emergencies relating to the facilities and coordinate the handling of such emergencies.

Provide tours and lab overviews for NSTC guests, faculty candidates, industry representative, etc.

Prepare NSTC presentation materials, display booth, etc. for various conference and related events

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

Additional Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of federal regulations and standards governing chemical and biological safety and clean room management. Able to anticipate operation needs and services and respond quickly to changes and emergency management situations.
