Job Description

The Counselor Education program in the College of Education and Human Performance at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks an innovative and energetic scholar to join our program, which has been ranked in the top ten Counselor Education programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report since 2007 and is the highest ranked degree program at UCF. Primary responsibilities include teaching a variety of graduate-level counseling courses; in addition to pursuing a programmatic line of research and scholarship, including publications and external contract and grant funding to support program and research initiatives; supervising practicum and internship students; serving on doctoral dissertation committees; and participating on departmental and college committees. This position is located on the Orlando campus and is a tenure-earning, 9-month appointment with benefits.

The Counselor Education program offers the following programs: master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A.); Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy (M.A.); and School Counseling (M.A., M.Ed.); Educational Specialist degree in School Counseling (Ed.S.); certificate programs in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy; Play Therapy; and Career Development; and a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Education—Counselor Education and Supervision.

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A.); Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy (M.A.); School Counseling (M.A.); and Counselor Education and Supervision (Ph.D.) programs are accredited by CACREP.

The College of Education and Human Performance employs about 125 full‐time faculty members serving approximately 5,700 students in 10 undergraduate programs and 25 graduate programs.

Position Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate in Counselor Education from an accredited institution at the time of employment.

A minimum of three years of full-time experience as a counselor educator in a specialization in one or more areas appropriate to the program degree offerings (i.e., Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy; and/or School Counseling).

Demonstrated evidence of scholarly productivity (i.e., publications, presentations, and/or grant funding).

Evidence of strong graduate level teaching.

Active participation in professional counseling organizations.


An earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program.

Manuscripts published in national refereed counseling journals.

Experience working as a practicing professional counselor.

Demonstrated evidence of, or potential for, grant writing.

Evidence of leadership in professional counseling organizations.
