Job Description

The University of Central Florida (UCF) announces an internal search for a visionary individual to provide transformative leadership in serving as the vice provost for Faculty Excellence. The vice provost for Faculty Excellence serves on the provost’s senior leadership team and works across multiple areas to collaboratively advance UCF’s Strategic Plan and mission of discovery, learning, inclusion, diversity, and engagement. This person will lead innovative initiatives to attract, recruit, cultivate, strengthen, and retain world class faculty. The vice provost is responsible for fostering a culture of excellence through faculty development and external fundraising efforts to support purposeful initiatives for Faculty Excellence. In collaboration with other stakeholders, this individual will guide the creation of an on-campus faculty hub to provide a centralized location for all of UCF’s faculty-related services, clusters, and groups.

The vice provost for Faculty Excellence will lead university-wide innovative initiatives and programs that strengthen all UCF faculty and will lead efforts to improve faculty diversity through recruitment and retention programs (e.g., National Academy Members, Targeted Opportunity Program) and new faculty hiring campaigns. This leader will encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, recognition of faculty merits, inspire excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research (e.g., mentoring, honors programs, and awards), and develop leadership programs (e.g., Provost Faculty Fellows Program and Academic Leadership Academy) to advance UCF’s Strategic Plan and mission of discovery, learning, and engagement.

Faculty Excellence oversees the tenure and promotion process, awards, faculty leaves, and faculty contracts in addition to other faculty affairs, and serves as the pivot for faculty climate initiatives (e.g., COACHE). The vice provost oversees the Center for Success of Women Faculty, helps determine faculty line allocation to colleges, and is responsible for onboarding, orientating, and mentoring new faculty.

Position Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must hold the rank of tenured full professor and have successful administrative experience that requires academic leadership and stewardship such as service as a dean, associate dean, department chair, or senior administrative equivalent;

Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of inclusion and diversity, faculty excellence, and a working understanding of faculty primary responsibilities and governance;

Strong understanding of academic affairs: faculty recruitment, retention, development; and the importance of tenure and promotion processes.


Experience with fundraising.
